

Edward R. Roybal Jr.
Edward R. Roybal, Jr. currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors of The Lucille and Edward R. Roybal Foundation. He has been a member of the Board since 1995 and was President of the Board from 1998 through 2005 and again in 2014. He was the Executive Director of the Roybal Foundation from May 2010 through January 31, 2014.
Mr. Roybal was a Professor of Law at John F. Kennedy University from April, 2008 through June of 2011 and at New College of California from January, 1983 through March, 2008. From January through June of 2008 he was Acting Dean of the New College of California School of Law. Prior to serving as Acting Dean he was Director of the Legal Skills Resource Center and Coordinator of Academic Support Services from August, 1989 through March of 2008, and Faculty Administrator of the Apprenticeship and Placement Programs from August, 1983 through July, 1989.
Mr. Roybal also had a long-term relationship with Centro Legal de la Raza in Oakland, California, beginning as a Law Clerk from September, 1974 through December, 1976 and as Staff Attorney from December, 1976 through June, 1978. As Staff Attorney he was a member of the Steering Committee of the Barlow Benavidez Committee Against Police Crimes. In August of 1985 he returned to Centro Legal as Managing Attorney and became Executive Director in January of 1986, continuing in both positions through March of 1993. He was a member of the Centro Legal Board of Directors from 1986 through 1996 and again from 2000 to 2005. He served as President of the Board from April, 1993 through 1996 and again from 2002 through 2005.
Mr. Roybal was a member of the Board of Directors of Community United Against Violence in San Francisco, California from January, 1995 through 2001 and was President of the Board in 1998 and 1999.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from U.C.L.A. in 1983 and his Juris Doctor from the University of California School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 1976, where he was a member of the California Law Review. He was admitted to practice by the California Bar in 1976 and was in private practice as an attorney from August 1980 through August 1985.
